Old-fashioned date balls with coconut

These date balls are also called Christmas energy balls or holiday bliss balls. They are easy Christmas treats to make for gifts. These energy balls are quick and easy to make. The entire process takes less than 15 minutes. Holiday bliss balls are naturally sweetened with dates. You can customize it to your liking. Add your favorite nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and nut butter. These date energy balls are vegan and can be easily made gluten-free and oil-free, too. These bite-sized treats are portable, making them good snacks during travel, picnics, kids’ tiffin boxes, etc.

Ingredients

We have used pitted dates, oil, flavorings with cashews, coconut, and a few biscuits to make these energy coconut date balls. These are rolled in coconut and almonds for extra flavor and to make it look festive.

Variations

Oats: Blend and add quick oats or rolled oats to the recipe. You can add nut butter to make it easier for them to stick to each other. Seeds: Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, or sesame seeds can be added for additional crunch and flavor. Dried fruits: Feel free to add raisins, prunes, cranberries, apricots, or figs. Spices: To make it festive, feel free to add allspice or a pinch of ginger powder, clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Chocolate: Serving it for kids? Feel free to add chocolate chips or morsels. Nuts: Swap cashews with pecans, almonds, walnuts or pistachios.

Step-by-step instructions

Roll it into coarse almond powder or desiccated coconut powder to make it look festive. Serve and enjoy.

Tips

If the mixture is too dry, add more dates or nut butter so that they bind easily. Add oats or almond meal if it becomes too wet or sticky. Store these energy balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 10 days. You can also freeze them. Thaw overnight in the fridge before serving. You can still make these date balls if you do not have a mixie jar or blender. Just make sure you chop everything finely. Are you not in the mood to roll them into balls? Spread it on a parchment sheet and let it set. Cut into bars and store.
