When do you usually eat fries? The first word that comes to my mind is hamburgers. I made smoked hamburgers and these Cajun fries at our last backyard picnic, and they were a huge hit. My son considers it a big treat when we go out for hamburgers and fries. And I have to admit that Five Guys Cajun fries are tempting. But as much as I enjoy eating out with my family, I love making homemade french fries even more.
Recipe Ingredients
How to Make Cajun Fries
Prep the Potatoes
Preheat Oven – Prepare the oven and preheat it to 425℉/218℃. Prep the Potatoes – Scrub potatoes, then cut them into the desired shape. The thinner you cut them, the faster they’ll cook. But make sure they are a uniform size for even cooking. (Photos 1-2) (If using frozen potato fries, skip to step 6.) Soak the potatoes in a bowl of cold water for 30 minutes to eliminate excess starch. Drain and dry. (Photos 3-4)
Bake
Coat – Mix the potatoes with cornstarch until thoroughly combined in a large bowl. Shake off the excess. Add the melted butter and oil and toss to combine. Then season with homemade Creole seasoning and salt. Arrange your potatoes in a single layer over a baking sheet. Depending on how many fries you’re baking, you may have to use two sheets. Bake the fries for 25-35 minutes. Flip them every 15 minutes with a spatula until they’re evenly browned and crispy, according to your preference. After 25 minutes, check on them every 5 minutes. Serve – Allow the fries to cool slightly, and serve immediately with ketchup or your favorite seasoning.

Tips and Tricks
Make-Ahead Instructions
Save time in the kitchen by doing make-ahead actions. Cut as many potatoes as needed and store them completely submerged in cold water in the fridge. You can also make homemade Cajun seasoning for now and in the future. Store it in a glass jar away from light and heat, and it should last 6 months to a year.
Serving and Storage Instructions
When it first comes out of the oven, it can be tempting to dive right in but wait. It’s better to let your fries slightly cool before serving. Refrigerate leftover fries for 2-3 days in an airtight container. You can reheat them for about 10 minutes on a baking sheet in a 350°F (175°C) oven.
What to Serve With Cajun Fries
Cajun fries are a must with hamburgers, salmon burgers, chicken sandwiches, and fish sandwiches. And sauces like remoulade and ranch dressing are great for dipping.
