How to eat Jackfruit?
This tropical fruit can be consumed in a variety of ways. Ripe Jackfruit: Jackfruit tastes the best when ripe, as its flesh is super sweet and juicy. You can consume it as it is for a quick evening snack or use it to make smoothies, desserts, and Indian sweets. Unripe Jackfruit: This has a stringy and meat-like texture, thus making it a trending ingredient for your meatless diet. Use it to make stir fry, curry, vegan pulled pork, and more. Jackfruit seeds: can be sundried and used to make traditional village-style curries, hummus, and soups or oven roast and used as a crunchy snack.
Vegan Jackfruit Recipes
Savory weeknight dinners or any meal, tacos, stew, burgers, pulled pork bbq sandwiches, and curry are prepared using green raw jackfruit meat. Some of my favorite vegan jackfruit recipes using unripe jackfruit are pulled jackfruit to make BBQ sliders, burgers, or sandwiches, Mangalorean traditional jackfruit or kathal curry (kadgi gojju), rava fry or raw jackfruit fritters, chickpeas and jackfruit curry (change gashi).
Ripe Jackfruit Recipes
All sweets and desserts are made using ripe fresh jackfruit. Jackfruit desserts are one of the best tropical desserts you will ever make. Jackfruit donut holes (ponsa mulik), payasam or kheer, appe or paniyaram, patholi or jackfruit tamales are some of my favorites.
Jackfruit seed recipe
A village-style traditional jackfruit seed recipe, bikkanda sagle or Mangalorean gashi, is ready in less than 30 minutes. While you are here, also check out how jackfruit leaves are weaved into the basket and used as a mold to steam a popular Indian breakfast called idli (khotto).
How to cut Jackfruit?
Jackfruit has a sticky sap, making it difficult to remove from your hands or utensils. So always grease your knife and hand with oil like coconut or grapeseed, or use gloves to coat your hands. Cut the Jackfruit into half with a sharp knife. Remove the core and the seeds. Remove the white fibrous string for unripe green Jackfruit and use it as desired in the recipe. For ripe Jackfruit, peel the flesh away and cut into the desired size.
