Why We Love This Easy Popsicle Recipe

Every little person loves homemade popsicles in the summertime… And big kids of all ages do, too! There’s just no tastier way to beat the heat than taking a big bite of a frosty frozen sweet treat. But what no one likes, is half of that ice pop going to waste as it melts all over the place. These brilliant kid-friendly freezer pops are made out of jello, so as they thaw they turn back into jiggly jell-o instead of instantly melting and dripping all over the place. Less mess, more fun! You can make them with one single box of your favorite jello flavor. Or make multiple batches and try this rainbow no-drip Jello Popsicles recipe with all sorts of colors and flavors of jello! These layered jello popsicles are fruity with multiple flavors and can be enjoyed frozen on hot summer days!

Ingredients You Need

Instant Jell-o gelatin mixture – any flavor Boiling water Granulated sugar Salt

To make this recipe you’ll also need a 10 cavity popsicle mold and 10 popsicle sticks. You can also make these frozen jello treats in small plastic or paper cups and individually freeze them!

How to Make Mess-Free Popsicles

Boil 1 cup of water. Set out a large heat-proof liquid measuring pitcher. Add the jello mix, sugar, and salt. Then pour in the hot water and stir until the mixture is completely dissolved. Now pour in 1 cup of cold water. Stir well. Carefully pour the jello mixture into the popsicle mold. Place the lid over the top and insert the popsicle sticks into each slot. Freeze for at least 4 hours, until the jello is frozen solid. Pro Tip for How to Remove Frozen Jello Popsicles: Turn the mold upside down and run warm water over each cavity for 30-45 seconds. Gently pull out the pops.

Steps to Make Rainbow Freezer Pops

You can layer as many colors and flavors as you like! Just remember that for each box of jello you need to multiply the total number of popsicles by 10. For instance, three flavors of jello will make 30 popsicles, so be sure to purchase plenty of molds. You can combine any flavor you like, such as blueberry, orange flavor, strawberry, peach, or cherry jello. Making rainbow pops takes a little more patience, because you need to wait for the first color to set before adding the next color. Place each layer in the freezer for approximately 30 minutes until the jello is firm, then make the next batch of jello to pour over the top. Once the final layer is on top, freeze for 3-4 hours.

Why put gelatin in popsicles?

Putting gelatin in popsicles might sound weird, but that is was helps these popsicles be no drip! So as the popsicles begin to melt, they will turn into a more jello-like consistency, instead of having liquid drip down your hands.

What add-ins can you add to jello ice pops?

You can easily include other flavors to these jello pops to take these frosty treats up a notch! Here are a few ideas to get you started with your own variations:

Lemon Juice or Lime Juice – to make the flavors tangier. These go well with berry jello flavors, like raspberry and strawberry. Koolaide – in place of water to mix in extra flavors. You can use the same type of Koolaide and jello for intense flavor, or mix-and-match flavors. Cayenne Pepper – for kick. This is a great option for tropical fruit freezer pops, like mango and pineapple. Vanilla Extract – to add deeper sweetness. I like to use vanilla with cherry, strawberry, and peach jello.

Can you make this popsicle recipe sugar-free?

Use unsweetened or sugar-free Kool-Aid and Jello. Instead of granulated sugar use your choice of white sugar substitute.

What can I substitute for popsicle molds?

If you don’t have a standard ice pop mold, your next best option is to use paper cups! Place 10 paper cups on a rimmed baking sheet, and distribute the popsicle liquid evenly. Cover each cup with a piece of plastic wrap – you might consider putting a rubber band around the cup to hold the plastic in place. Stick a popsicle stick through the center of the plastic wrap and down into the cup.

How long can I keep frozen jello pops in the freezer?

These freezer pops will last at least 6 months in the freezer! But I highly doubt they will last that long!
