About the recipe

The first restaurant that I visited in the United States was Pizza hut, and breadsticks were the first item we ordered. It’s become one of my favorite recipes since then. Who would not love soft garlic cheese breadsticks, right? Garlic breadsticks are popular appetizers or side dishes in Italian and American cuisine made using bread dough or pizza dough (homemade or storebought). Some like garlic breadsticks from Dominos, while others like them from Pizza Hut, Papa John’s, and Olive Garden. Which one is your favorite?

Ingredients

Pizza dough: I always make extra pizza dough or bread dough at home, cover it in plastic wrap, and keep it in the refrigerator to make garlic breadsticks the next day. This garlic breadsticks recipe is made from scratch. But if you want a quick breadstick, use storebought pizza or bread dough. Seasoning: Use fresh garlic minced or garlic powder, butter or olive oil, pepper flakes, oregano, dried herbs (parsley or basil), and parmesan cheese. See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

Step-by-step instructions

Making of pizza dough (skip if using storebought or any readymade crust)

Add warm water and sugar to a bowl. Sprinkle yeast and leave it undisturbed for 10 minutes. Let the yeast activate. Add salt, olive oil, and flour in increments and knead to get a smooth yet slightly tacky dough. Brush the baking pan generously with butter or vegetable oil. The more you add, the crispier the crust will be. Roll out the dough using the rolling pin to form a 9 * 8 rectangle. Place this in the baking pan. Cover it with a warm towel or plastic wrap and let it rise for 1 ½ to 2 hours.

Prepare garlic breadstick seasoning.

In a bowl, add garlic powder, pepper flakes, garlic salt, oregano, and basil leaves and mix. This is done so that the toppings are spread uniformly. Adjust all the seasonings to taste.

How to bake Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks?

Preheat the oven to 475 degrees F. Once the dough is risen, using a pizza cutter or knife, score the breadsticks. This is done to get uniform sticks. Brush the top of the sticks with olive oil or butter and then sprinkle it with grated parmesan and the mixed seasoning. Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown and become crispy. Serve hot, and enjoy with marinara, ranch, or mayonnaise.

Tips

Instead of garlic salt and garlic powder, you can use freshly grated garlic and a pinch of salt. Leftovers can be stored at room temperature for a day, in the refrigerator for seven days, and in the freezer for up to one month. Reheat in the oven at 350 degrees F until heated through. Instead of dried basil, parsley can be used, or pizza seasoning. Seasoning can be added before or after baking. We love to add before baking because the herbs and spices melt into the cheese and create the best topping. If using store-bought pizza dough, bake it at the temperature mentioned in the package.

Make ahead option

You can make the dough, let it rise, and cover and keep it in the refrigerator. This can be stored for 2 to 3 days. Bake when needed and enjoy. If you are baking without resting for 45 minutes, bake for an extra 3 to 4 minutes.
