Ingredients
Mithai: You can use any Indian sweets of your choice. I have used gulab jamun, rasgulla, milk barfi, besan ladoo, motichoor ladoo and jalebi. Cream: Heavy whipping cream is preferred. Flavor it with saffron and cardamom for a traditional Indian flavor. Cake: Any sponge cake, gulab jamun cake, or leftover cake can be used to make this trifle dessert. Nuts and rose petals: To make it look more festive. Check out the recipe card for a full list of ingredients
Step-by-step instructions
In a mixie jar or blender, add sugar, cardamom pods, and saffron and blend it to a smooth powder. In a bowl, add whipping cream and powdered sugar and whisk until stiff peaks are formed. In a blender, add cake slices and pulse for seconds. Use your favorite mithai and chop or crumble them into small bite-size pieces.
Assemble
In a serving glass, add a layer of cake crumbs, followed by a layer of sweets and then whipped cream. Garnish with pistachios and rose petals. Repeat the same layers one more time. Chill until ready to serve.
Tips
Based on the size of the serving glass, you may have to assemble the layers. You can make two big servings or four individual servings with the recipe given. Instead of cake crumbles, cookie crumbles, custard, or jelly can be added. You can make this mithai trifle even after diwali with all the leftover sweets.
