About Strawberry Banana Smoothie

During busy days especially in summer, I prefer to have icy berry smoothies as one meal, as they are tasty, filling, and low in calories. Also, there are instances when my husband becomes super motivated about watching his calorie intake, and during those days, I get these sweet requests from him to make his favorite smoothies for breakfast or as a post-workout snack. If you have fresh fruits, milk, and some ice cubes, it is easy to make quick, filling, and refreshing smoothies in no time. Adding sugar or other forms of natural sweetener is totally optional. Most of the time, I skip it. You can also substitute milk with almond milk for a vegan smoothie. I also replace milk with yogurt if I am craving a lassi. Try this easy smoothie, and let me know if you like it. Also, do not forget to share your favorite fruit combinations for smoothies. Ingredients for Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Strawberries are the seasonal fruit of choice. It is packed with antioxidants and other essential minerals - making it a perfect fruit for an instant energy boost. These can be replaced with other berries or seasonal pulpy fruits such as mangoes, sapodilla/chickoo, avocado, etc. Bananas are rich in potassium and magnesium, which help prevent or ease muscle cramps after a workout. This carb-rich food is perfect for helping your muscles recover faster. These can be replaced with apples. Whole milk is used to adjust the consistency of the smoothie. It is rich in calcium and proteins. Almond milk can be used instead of milk for a vegan smoothie. You can also use yogurt to make a lassi instead of a smoothie. Honey / Agave nectar / Sugar -  any sweetener may be used if needed. This is optional. Ice cubes are optional. You can use frozen bananas and cold milk when preparing the smoothie.

Expert Tips

You can also add some dry fruits, nuts, oatmeal, or granola if desired. You can either increase the quantity of bananas or add yogurt if you like the thicker smoothie. Use seasonal fruits for the best flavor.

Storage instructions

This smoothie can be prepared in under 5 to 10 minutes, so you can prepare a fresh smoothie and serve. However, if there are leftovers, the smoothie can be stored in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. As this is a milk-based smoothie, it has to be consumed as early as possible. Else you run the risk of curdling the milk. To make a large batch ahead of time, you can use almond milk (or other plant/nut-based milk) or yogurt and store it in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 days. Do not use ice cubes, as they will thin down the smoothie as it melts in the refrigerator.
